Top Benefits of HVAC Cleaning

NADCA’s rule of thumb for consumers is that “if your ducts look dirty, they probably are,” and that dirty HVAC systems should be inspected by a reputable, certified HVAC professional. Below are some other reasons homeowners choose to have their air ducts cleaned.

Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality is one concern that homeowners have when they decide to investigate air duct cleaning. In a typical six-room home, up to 40 pounds of dust is created annually through everyday living. Your heating and cooling system is the lungs of your home. The system taken air in and breathes air out.

Through normal occupation in a home, we generate a great deal of contaminants and air pollutants, such as dander, dust, and chemicals. These contaminants are pulled into the HVAC system and re-circulated 5 to 7 times per day, on average. Over time, this re-circulation causes a build-up of contaminants in the duct work.

While dirty ducts don’t necessarily mean unhealthy air in your home, school or workplace, they may be contributing to larger health issues or harboring contaminants that could cause serious problems for people with respiratory health conditions, autoimmune disorders or some environmental allergies.

Energy Savings

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, 25 to 40 percent of the energy used for heating or cooling a home is wasted. Contaminants in the heating and cooling system cause it to work harder and shorten the life of your system. Although filters are used, the heating and cooling system still gets dirty through normal use.

When an HVAC system is clean, it doesn’t have to work as hard to maintain the temperature you desire. As a result, less energy is used, leading to improved cost-effectiveness.

Air Duct Cleaning

When do you need to have your ventilation (Air Duct System cleaned)?

Are you constantly dusting? Are you continuously smelling obnoxious odors? Is someone in your home suffering from asthma, allergies, hypersensitivity, or mold? Your ventilation system can collect smoke, dust, pollen, pet dander, dust mites, bacteria and many strains of mold (some are toxic and many are allergens). Once lodged in the ventilation system, the furnace and air conditioner become pumps, pushing these pollutants throughout your house. They become invisible, airborne particles contributing to allergies, itching and breathing difficulties. Over time you become immune to the odors, but not immune to the long term effects. When the quality of the air you breathe is contaminated, it is time to invest in getting your ventilation system cleaned.

The cleaning of a home ventilation system is a clean, safe procedure producing an immediate improvement in air quality in most instances. It is done using specially designed brushes and four-stage vacuums with High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters so that no additional pollutants are added to the air.

In rare occasions, even this is not enough to clear the air. Then, there are supplemental products available to our technicians to eliminate or greatly reduce specific problems. A sanitizer can be used to eliminate germs, bacteria, pet dander and dust mites. Some surfaces can be wiped down with an antimicrobial solution. The entire ventilation system can be fogged with Sporiciden, a product that kills mold spores. Special problems, like persistent smoke odors, are caused by particles that adhere to the vents in places the brushes cannot brush them free. They are treated with a special sealant that encapsulates the soot; covering and binding it to the ducts so the odor is eliminated.

When even these steps do not bring the relief you want, the problem may go beyond the ventilation system. For persistent odors or in households containing people with severe allergies, it may be necessary to mold rinse the carpets and use an enzyme deodorant that removes dust mites, bacteria and even odors from pet accidents. These steps eliminate any carpet problems, but there could still be spores or bacteria on other surfaces or suspended in the air.

For bacteria or mold that settles or clings on the walls, ceiling, furniture or other surfaces, the entire house can be fogged Sporiciden. Any remaining spores or bacteria suspended in the air can be killed through the use of C & L Quality Services’s ozone generators. The ozone generators are usually saved for a last resort because all people, plants, fish and pets need to leave the premises before they can be utilized. The ozone generators kill any remaining organic substances.

Hopefully, your problem will never be that bad; but know, remedies are available from C & L Quality Services.
